Project Description
Blue Cross of Kansas City was my main client that I worked with while at Chemistry. I worked on edits on their main site, adapting to another developer's code and organization. I also created a lot of landing pages meant for marketing that are no longer live. Their annual reports were fun projects each year, because we were able to play more with a creative design/animation (2020 Annual Report, 2019 Annual Report, 2018 Annual Report, 2017 Annual Report). When I first started, I built all of Blue KC's emails for their many campaigns, organized their Salesforce account, and was in charge of all marketing sends. After a few years, another developer was hired to take over the emails, which I passed off and taught him. Mostly, however, I built full-scale projects and websites to further their brand and address specific users.
Websites Built for Blue KC
- Blue KC Medicare Website - Built in 2018
This has been an ever-evolving website for the past few years. It's a static PHP-based website but we gradually built more functionality into it, such as a Microsoft Dynamics form, Medicare plans sorted by zipcode (as well as tailored content based on zipcode), and an interactive quiz. - Blue KC Blog - Built in 2020
This blog was built on Wordpress separate from their main website and tied in with a mirrored server. The blog features filtering by topic or category, searching by keyword, and a sortable author feature. Behind the scenes, there's a number of custom post types that can only be seen if you have the URL. These are for the many custom email newsletters Blue KC sends out monthly or quarterly. - Blue KC For You - Built in 2020
This website was built for Blue KC to advertise specific plans to certain customers and a way to filter their marketing. It is a static PHP-based website. The content on the site is determined based on the zipcode that the user enters. Certain pages are only accessible for users who have entered a zipcode in the Blue KC area. Plans are then shown and can be filtered further. - Blue KC Mindful - Built in 2021
The Mindful Wordpress website was built to focus on helping those with mental health issues and pointing them to appropriate resources. The website also has a blog with filtering options. This was a tight deadline, but we were able to polish it off quickly and get it up within the pandemic.

Spira Care was originally one of the first websites I built when I joined Chemistry. The client wanted a total refresh. Though I mostly handled this client, I was overwhelmed with work so another developer was pulled in to take over. After a week, it was evident there was too much work and I was pulled back in to help. This turned out to be a fun experience for me, leading a project and two other developers to get the work done in a super tight deadline. A lot of extra hours paid off and we were able to complete the site! What I Learned
- Pulling in JSON info for multiple care centers and care team members
- Delegating tasks, overseeing who was assigned what in Trello to keep items moving
- Reviewing finished work to make sure it was up to the clients' standards
- Communicating with project mangers on progress each day

Project Description
Beverlys' Birthdays was such a fun project to work on and a big learning process for all involved. This was a non-profit project Chemistry took on to help the community. The message is very inspiring and gave all involved a great drive to build a beautiful project. We built the initial website in 2018 (finishing in 2019), but as the client used the site, she realized a lot of the functionality was either not needed, or didn't fit their company well. From there, we identified the problems, came up with solutions, and rebuilt the site in parts. This was a great lesson in organization and also on what works well for busy clients. Ended up with a great product and a happy client! What I Learned
- Created dynamic page template that could be used for each page, with interchangeable modules
- Rebuilding off old code to create a new website, keeping things organized
- Better understanding of what works well for clients, as opposed to what "looks good" to a more technology-savvy individual
- Sometimes, remember to keep things simple

Some websites I personally helped build were H&R Block Dollars and Sense, Tax Center, Tax Institute, and Block Advisors. Another developer in the company was focused on H&R Block so I offered support when he needed me.What I Learned
- Working off other developers' code and projects
- Adjusting to different builds and structure
- Keeping all websites organized and up-to-date
- Being able to jump in and help on tight deadlines, learning and adapting quickly

The Guardian Protections project was a very large one that a number of developers touched, but I was the main developer on. It was my first experience delving out tasks to others and maintaining and communicating our progress to the Product Managers. There was a lot of dynamic and custom content the site needed including zipcode-specific content, calculators, and functional elements of the homepage. What I Learned
- Searching through zipcode database to check if content is available to specific user
- First time making generic templates with completely customizable and moveable blocks for the client to build their own pages
- Clock animation on homepage based on users' personal time
- Using Trello to monitor others' progress and timing

The Atlanta Botanical Gardens website was a big undertaking in communication and organization. This was the first big project where two offices (Pittsburgh and Atlanta) worked together. The site itself is huge and needed very dynamic sections so that content could be pulled from other places and flow naturally with the user's experience. The entire project was a long one, but I learned some great skills throughout the entire process. What I Learned
- Creating dynamic content blocks that pull custom post types based on keywords chosen
- Instagram integration
- Smooth parallax animations that closely fit what the designer and client had in mind
- Complex event integration through multiple locations

InsideTrack was an awesome project to work on because of it’s depth and need. There were lots of challenges to overcome in a tight deadline, and I loved the finished product! Working and keeping track of all the different post types (5 in total), information, and events was a good way to learn. I also did all the content population for this site, which was new to me as well. What I Learned
- Creating, maintaining, and organizing arrays of different post types
- Ajax Loading
- Image grid of news items and resources

Working on Cleveland Museum’s Campaign website was a big opportunity to play with colors, transitions, and background image animations. The photography was one of the main focuses of the microsite, so using different techniques, I aimed to add extra attention to the client’s favorite details.

Working on GCSC was an exciting project because the design was fun and creative. I worked with one other developer on this project, and we experimented with a lot of transitions and hover effects. One of the best parts of this project was that our client wanted users to have the ability to create their own pages for events, and when they created a page, the user can choose a color scheme, which will change certain elements on the page. What I Learned
- Working with App Dev to create color scheming and open-ended system
- Conquer some challenging iOS bugs
- Utilizing a lot of different types of content sliders

My Passion
My love for design began with my need for a custom-built Myspace profile (no, seriously). I have been obsessed with digital art ever since. I graduated from Ohio University with a BA in Digital Media and Visual Communications in August 2014. My focus was digital animation and design. While in college, I taught myself how to program and realized how much passion and skill I have for the field. My experience with design enhances my code. My experience with animation enhances my ability to dream up great micro-interactions and user experiences. My Experience
While in college, I worked as a freelance graphic and web designer. I also interned at Three Rivers Community Foundation and Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium as a Web Development Intern. I spent the summer of 2014 at iDtech Academy teaching Web Programming (PHP/mySQL) at MIT. I moved to Cleveland shortly after where I worked at thunder::tech as a Front End Developer. I spent a year at Insivia, as a Junior Web Developer. My most recent employment has been at Blue Like Neon as a remote developer, living in Pittsburgh, PA. Over the past six years, it’s been a steady journey from designer to front end developer to WordPress Developer. My Skills
My abilities vary between design and code. My best skill is to create like a designer and problem-solve like a coder. I am always ready to learn or teach any chance I can.- HTML/CSS
- SASS
- JavaScript
- JQuery
- PHP/mySQL
- CMS (Drupal, WordPress, Custom-built)
- Custom plugin/theme development
